Motherhood’s Magic Bullet? - For moms

Link: Knitting Without Needles ? Motherhood’s Magic Bullet?.

All you mother's out there..take a look at this post on Denise's blog.  I almost died and threw up at the same time. (Not at her post but what she was writing about)  What a huge f*cking joke.  The entire article is here, but Denise does an AWESOME job picking out the little tasty morsels.  I'd like to thank Isela her commentary too.  What in the heck is this world coming to?

Meme and Ribby Shell

I got tagged for a meme from Terby yesterday and me being the slacker I am, did not remember to post until today.

So here goes:

id·i·o·syn·cra·sy
n. pl. id·i·o·syn·cra·sies
A structural or behavioral characteristic peculiar to an individual or group.

Write down five of your own idiosyncrasies.

1.) I hate food/chewing/any sort of noise when people eat.  Most of my husband's family (bless them all) are very "enthusiastic" eaters and it seriously stresses me out!

2.)  I really don't like knitting itself all that much.  Yes I realize this is strange, since I knit most every chance I get. I like the finished product, I like seeing how things knit up, but I don't really like knitting for knitting. I think that's why I hate swatching so much, I just want to get to the good stuff.

3.)  I can buy a house or a car in 2 seconds but I have serious problems making decisions about the stupidest things.  I literally can spend 20 minutes deciding between a brand in a grocery store because of a 20 cent difference but major purchases are decided in a split second.  Weird.

4.)  I am a serious pack rat which totally goes against my need to be neat, tidy and "uncluttered." It's a constant battle every day between the me who will not throw it out and the me who is tired of looking at it!

5.)  I absolutely LOVE to cook, but I hate doing dishes.

I'm going to pass this on to - Jenn, Felicia, Cathy, Caitlyn (I'm not sure if she reads this but thought I'd give it a try, and Uta...

Also, I realized that I hadn't posted a picture of the ribby shell I did. It was knit with GGH Somoa in black on size 7? needles.  I like the way it turned out but it should have been another inch or 2 longer. How hard is it to take a picture of yourself..I look so stupid!!!

Stitch Marker Swap

I kind of forgot about the whole questionaire thing so I better do it now seeing that we already got our assignments!  :) So stitch marker sp here goes -

Do you prefer shorter or more dangling type of markers?  I don't have a preference as long as they are not SUPER heavy.

Is there any kind of markers that you would absolutely NOT want to recieve? Nope
Colors you like most? all colors, but I like cool combos, brown/blue, orange/pink, lime green/pink.  But actually I don't really care.

Colors you like least?I don't really have any..I don't like yellow too much.

Would you prefer markers for smaller or larger sized needles? either

Do you want your sender to reveal themselves  there shipped or at a later date?
and How would you like to find out if at all? Reveal away!  I'd love to know who you are!

DEATH TO HARRY POTTER

Ok..ok...calm down. I was just kidding!  With all the Harry Potter mania going on, I was forced to go buy a copy of the book myself.  I WAS NOT going to start it until this weekend, I really wanted to finish Tivoli first, but I got sucked in!  Now I'm trying to divide what little free time I have between knitting and reading and the reading is winning, darn it!  So Tivoli sits and waits and suffers.  Here she is in all her half finished glory!  BTW..she looks much better in person, she kind of photographs shiny and although she has a bit of a shine, she doesn't look quite like the polyester print that this photo makes her look.

Tivoli Oh and one more thing. I'm moving right along with my stitch markers and have been trying to clean up my craft room a little bit. I can't make any promises but if any of ya want to e-mail me with your addys you might get some sort of surprise in the mail. I'm feeling rather giving!  :)

Hey thanks...

Just wanted to post a quick thanks to a couple people who have sent little RAOK's to brighten my day!  After the SP fiasco (no I have not posted details about it nor will I, I don't want to inflame the situation anymore) it's nice to see that people care!

First HUGE SHOUT OUT goes to Beth for sending me a gift certificate for some yummy tea at Adagio.  I still  have not placed an order yet but I have heard nothing but great things about them and will be ordering very soon. I'll be sure to inform you guys of all the delicious details.

My second goes to Leah over at Knittin Pretty. This chick is definitely a rock star in my book and sent me 2 fabulous skeins of ribbon??? yarn from Elann's. I wish the picture did this stuff more justice, it is funky and fun and I already have visions of a fab tote.  She also included a little thing of tea and a cute card. Thanks girl!!!  BTW...what kind of yarn is this? I looked for it at Elann's and am either blind or dumb cause I couldn't find it!  :)Rak

Thanks gals for brightening my day!

Here is another quick pic of a new project that I have started. I too have decided to jump on the stitch marker bandwagon.  I thought since I joined the stitch marker swap I should atleast try it out! OMG!!! These things are so fun to make. I'm no pro but I see buttloads of stitch markers being produced in the future!  And when I say buttloads..I mean buttloads!  They look seriously better in person then they do in this photograph! I have a HUGE jewelry making stash and was thinking about maybe selling a few of the "nicer" ones here and there.  What do ya'll think. Would you buy some as little gifts?  Maybe a buck or 2 a pair?  Hmmmmmm...I can see my name in lights..Heather Stitch Marker Maker of the Stars!Markers

I expect tons of praise darn it!!!

You - Why Heather..did you get lots of knitting done?

Me - Why no "so and so" I did not get any knitting done?

You - Well why is that Heather?

Me - Because, I was busy busting my ass on this -

Tada...(insert applause here)

Cutie_1

It took 2 hell weeks of taking down wallpaper, never ending sanding, 2 coats of blue paint and one faux finish, and room number one is finally done!  Praise be.  What a pain in the ass!  Remember what it looked like before..can I refresh your memory.. remember "Nascar."  aargh...

And of course..gotta add a token picture of the cute patootie.  Cutie_2

What the felt?

Sophi bag is fully felted and super cute -  tada - (Insert, oohs, aahs, and various fun superlatives here)

Felted

But what the felt is this.  Could it be..why yes..that is a big ass hole in poor little Sophie. How in the heck did that happen?  Or more importantly how in the heck do I fix it?  So sad!!!!

July 21, 2005

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to felt I go!

SophieToday is get the F out day, that is "get the felt out" day.  I'm excited to felt Sophie.  Sophie was knitted on 10.5's in a pink recycled wool and black trim compliments of lamb's pride onyx. I'm excited to see how it's going to felt up. If I was smart, and I apparantly no longer am, I would have felted a test swatch of the pink. For all I know it was superwash (I seriously doubt it).  I choose to live by the seat of my pants though and just go for it!  I made the handle a little longer so I could wear it over my shoulder.  Clutches and children don't mix, so all clutches must be turned into bags!

I also managed to knit up a quick swatch of the shine I got from knitpicks. It actually really is a lovely color and I'm super excited to start Tivoli.  I had to tweak the pattern a little bit..boob thing again..but I'm determined to make this thing fit me.  Shine

And as far as ribby shell goes..I will wear it, fit or no fit..I just need to get a black bra..the only thing uglier then a black sweater that doesn't fit well is a white bra underneath.  Yuck!!!!

Wooly Willy Warmer

Yes folks you read right. You too can knit a wacky Willy Warmer for that wonderful man in your life.  Now answer me this, what man in their right mind would want to wear one of these things?  And more importantly why the hell would you want to knit one?  Ok....I realize knitting is an art and I mean no disrespect to the artist who designed this but....WTF???

Apparantly I lost my sense of humor today!  Oh blah...

July 16, 2005

I can't believe it's been a week

since I've posted. Time flies when you are having absolutely no fun!  Ok..it's really not that bad. But let me start out by saying it's been a seriously long, hot, frustrating week. At least I have Amelia to help me out around the house.  She tries and as far as a 2 year old goes, she doesn't do all that bad.  Look..here is a perfect example, she decided to help me out by feeding baby sister her breakfast. What a fantastic job!  LOL  And what a trooper Makenna is, I swear she was able to shove half of that in her mouth before I cleaned it up. She is seriously like a freakin hoover vacuum cleaner, I could market her.  "No need to clean your floor folks, just set this baby (no pun intended) down on the floor and away she goes sucking up everything that comes in her path!" No wonder the poor thing weighs 24 lbs.  Yikes.P1010173_1

Well on the knitting front. Where to start. I finished my ribby cardi to mixed review. I really liked the yarn and the pattern. I really don't like the fact that my boobs look huge in the damn thing.  Granted my boobs are kind of huge, but they don't look huge in a cute perky way, they just look big.  And..to make matters worse it's also about 2 inches too short (because of the huge boob thing) and I really should have made it longer.  I guess I got kind of impatient to start the armpit shaping!  I blocked it hoping to "stretch" it out a little bit lengthwise without the ruining the ribbing.  If it doesn't work, then it will go in the closet until I lose 15 lbs, then I can wear it with pride.  One thing to note, I finished the shoulders using the 3 needle bind off technique. I swear to god, it almost brought me to tears, joyous happy tears, I have never seen shoulder seams (ribbed no less) that looked that good!  I was amazed.   Here is a great article on knitty on how to throw out those pre-historic stair steps and bind offs for some good new age short rows and 3 needles, I will live, breath, and eat this technique from now on. It was that good.P1010178_2_1

Where are we at now. Ok...got some shine from knit picks to do the tivoli t. I swear not to get impatient with this one and make it long enough to hide my belly!!!!  I like the yarn and am anxious to swatch it up.  It's a little shinier then I had hoped but I should have known that from the name "Shine" duh Heather...  I imagine it will feel divine on one's skin though!

P1010180_1 Lastly, as an in between I've decided on what kind of back to make my recycled wool out of ..drum roll please....duddududududuudududududu... Sophie by Julie Anderson....I'm excited and have even started on it. I guess the good thing about bags is that they always fit!  I finally used my ball wool winder to make a center pull ball and it turned out so cute! I almost don't want to use it!  Ok not really but it does look cute.P1010183

I guess that's almost it. I will say I'm excited to announce my name finally came up for the Fiber RAOK ring and I'm ecstatic about that! I could use a little random acts of kindness right now..or maybe just a big fat cocktail!

Take care.
